Trackunit alternative: what to actually compare on.
Trackunit is a solid product and built most of this market. That doesn't automatically make it the right choice for your yard. Here's what to actually compare it on.
Someone searching for a Trackunit alternative has usually already seen a demo, or is running the platform today and has hit something - a brand that doesn't come in cleanly, a rollout that stalls, a support ticket that takes a week. Trackunit is a serious product and built a large part of this market itself. The question isn't whether it's good, it's whether it fits your fleet, your brands and your team.
This guide walks through what actually matters. Use it against monytr, against Trackunit, against anyone.
1. Does maintenance planning come standard, or do you have to bolt it on yourself?.
At its core, Trackunit is a telematics platform: location, engine hours, fault codes. Maintenance planning isn't built in - if you want to tie maintenance to hours and fault codes, you have to set that up yourself in a separate system, or keep running on a spreadsheet and a good memory.
With monytr, maintenance planning is part of the platform by default. Engine hours and fault codes automatically flow into a maintenance task - triggered on hour thresholds, with the OEM parts list attached, instead of a separate report someone still has to turn into work.
2. Is support based in Belgium, or are you talking to a call centre in another time zone?.
Trackunit's support is based overseas - there's no local office in Belgium. A fault code at 06:30 on a Belgian site is not something you want to explain to someone who just woke up on the other side of the world.
monytr is based in Belgium. Our own technical engineers guide the installation, come out to the site, and stay reachable after go-live for local, hands-on support - not a ticket that goes through three layers before you reach anyone.
3. What if your machine doesn't give standard telemetry?.
Not every machine speaks clean AEMP or J1939. Generators, older hydraulic installations, or more specialised and customised equipment often don't expose anything usable through a standard portal.
Our own technical engineers build a solution for that themselves: extra sensors, a custom build, or a direct CAN bus tap, tailored to the machine. Where a standard platform stops at "not supported", we go in and get the data out ourselves.
4. Do you have to start over if you've already connected machines through Trackunit?.
No. monytr has an integration with Trackunit. Machines you've already connected today through Trackunit itself, or through an OEM portal running on Trackunit, show up right alongside the rest of your fleet in the monytr screen. You don't need to disconnect anything to switch: what works keeps working, and just comes into the same overview.
5. What if the standard package doesn't fully fit your processes?.
Every company works differently. The standard modules of a telematics platform cover most needs, but not every company has the same needs and processes - a specific report, a link to an internal system, or a workflow that doesn't fit a generic tool.
Where the standard package falls short, monytr builds alongside you. Our own technical engineers develop custom solutions tailored to your company, so the platform adapts to how you work - not the other way around.
Is monytr an alternative to Trackunit, then?.
Yes. Where we tend to win: companies that want local, hands-on guidance on site instead of an overseas call centre, fleets with more specialised or non-standard equipment that need a custom sensor build, teams who'd rather have maintenance planning built into the same screen than bolt something on themselves, and companies with processes that don't fit a standard package. And you don't have to throw everything out to start: whatever's already connected through Trackunit, we just bring along.
